Chapter 1: Darkness Shines Brightest

                                                                                                                              Aiden:

     "Attention! Attention!" An automated voice said over the loud speaker in the hallway. "All competitors report to the Bow of the ship. Again all competitors report to the Bow of the ship. Your opponents will be assigned to you there, along with where you will be fighting. That is all."

Hearing this I got out of bed and woke Elli up. Reluctantly she got out of bed and got dressed (she made me face the corner of the wall with three blankets over my head though). After she was done we left our room for the Bow.

We saw everyone leaving their rooms or in the hallway confused about what the *Bow* is. We began our way to the Bow following the rest of crowd before we got there Elli asked.

     "So. Anyone specific you want to fight in this competition?"
     "No one really." I replied. "What about you?"
     "I don't know I want to fight them all personally."
     "You really are insane aren't you?"
     She let out a faint laugh. "You guessed it."
     "You really do need help… But than again so do I, so I can't argue."

Elli and I made it to the Bow of the ship to find the competitors. We looked up at the giant stand where all the judges stood high and proud. A man wearing a blue hoodie, gray cargo pants and black sneakers.
I couldn't see his face but it looked like he had three eyes, two glowing white ones and one bright golden one on his forehead.

     "Welcome contestants." He said breaking the whispering in the crowed. "My name is Oracle one of the judges for the one and only Hands Of Chaos tournament." The crowd stood and watched impatiently. "Today I will announce who will be going up against who, and where on the ship they will fight." He pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket and began telling everyone their opponents and what part of the ship to kill each other in.

About five minutes later he told us we were going up against someone named Raptura and that we'll have the *wonderful* experience of fighting in *The Engine Housings*. We began to make our way to the stern of the ship. Once had we gotten to the stern we made our way down as far as we could go to find a door with a sign that said.

So we did the obvious thing and entered. Once we had gotten ourselves lost enough we decided to wait for our opponent from where we were. The Engine Housing looked like it was in fine condition aside for some pipes falling off from time to time. The only problem I had with it was some doors were blocked by rubble or locked ages ago, so I'd have to open it with my threads. Not to mention if you're not careful you'll get burned by steam from one of the broken pipes.

     "So," Elli said sitting down. "what do you think the guy we're going up against looks like?"
     "Well anyone with the name *Raptura* I know isn't someone I can just stab with my threads and he'll be dead." I replied sitting across from her.
     "Aiden."
     "Yes Elli?"
     "What do think will happen? You know if we win."
     "I don't know. Hopefully something worth all this crap. I don't want to have left my house, work and the chance to kill The Dark Blade for a blue ribbon"
     "Yeah…" Elli said darting her eyes to the floor trying not to look me in the eyes.
     "So what do you think we shou-" before I finished my sentence me and Elli heard a faint screeching sound, like a blade to metal.

It was hard to tell where it was coming from, What with all the machinery and the fact that any noise would make an echo. Elli and I stood back to back as to not let who ever was there the advantage. I heard Elli make an odd noise, as if she couldn't speak.

I turned around to see that she was reaching for her neck as if trying to pry something off of it. She finally got what ever it was off of her neck with one hand and stabbed at the air in front of her. The odd thing was she didn't stab air she stabbed something invisible, unless air bleeds. After she pulled the knife out an awful creature had appeared.

It looked as if they had been doing experiments on him or he fell in a vat of radiation (wouldn't think less of the idea). It feel to the ground and bleed out.

     "Phew" Elli said wiping the sweat off of her forehead. "I thought it was something more deadly than that."
     "Yeah…" I replied. "I wonder if Raptura sent it or if the Hands Of Chaos have a bunch of them stashed down here."
     "I wouldn't doubt that they'd have these things down here."
     "Yeah but something's not right here."
     "And what's that?"
     "The sound we heard… it sounded like it came from a blade scrapping on the floor right?"
     "Yeah why?" Elli said cleaning her knife.
     "This thing doesn't have any sort of metal on him. So why would it sound like that if he didn't have any sort of knife or sword?"
     "I don't know. Maybe- again we heard the noise but louder and with much more force to it.

I looked behind Elli and saw a shadow slither across the floor. I looked up thinking he was on the roof but no… he was the shadow. He came out of the floor quickly and wrapped quickly around Ellis body.

     "Hmm I was hoping that that zombie would have killed you two for me." a shrill voice from the shadow said. "But I'm glad it didn't now I could have more fun with you two."
     "Let her go." I replied while making a sword form from my threads.

I lifted up my sword and came down on the shadow but he opened up so my sword would miss him and hit Elli. Luckily I was quick enough to just barely miss her. The shadow laughed

     "I'm kind of glad they paired me with you two now." he said making a small Scythe around Ellis' neck.
